Board of Trustees Leadership Positions
At AMSA’s Annual Convention, the House of Delegates (HOD) elects the President-Elect, Vice President for Membership, Vice President for Program Development, Vice President for Leadership Development, Secretary, Graduate Trustee, and International Trustee. These national elections play a crucial role in AMSA, selecting key officers who will guide the organization’s operations in the coming year.
Regional Director Positions (Medical, Premedical, International)
The role of Regional Director (RD) is one of the most critical in national AMSA. RDs are elected by the chapters in their respective regions and serve as the primary connection between national leadership, staff, and local chapters. Each RD develops a work plan to strategically engage local chapters and members in their region. They act as the main information channel between local chapters and national officers, functioning as organizers, problem solvers, and motivators for their region.
Action Committee & Team Chair Positions
AMSA’s committees focus on areas that the Association believes are essential for medical students in becoming socially responsible physicians and healers. Action Committee Leaders promote these focus areas and related initiatives at national, regional, and local levels, ensuring AMSA maintains a dynamic approach to medicine amid constant change.
Action Committee & Team Chairs are responsible for directing committee activities and overseeing the work of committee coordinators.
Action Committee & Team Coordinator Positions
AMSA’s committees address critical areas that future physicians should value in their professional development. Action Committee Coordinators work alongside the Chairs to implement committee initiatives and achieve goals throughout the year.
IFMSA Advisory Council Positions
AMSA represents the United States in the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA), fostering global collaboration on shared health-related interests.
Ideal candidates for these positions should have an interest in global health or health policy and prior experience in these areas, whether through AMSA, local initiatives, or other related organizations.
AMSA relies on dedicated student leaders who commit their time and energy to their national leadership responsibilities. Each position varies in responsibility, time commitment, and required experience, but all demand a strong understanding of the organization, dedication, and enthusiasm for AMSA’s mission.
