AMSA Submits Comments Opposing the Administration’s Latest Effort to Restrict Abortion Access
Sterling, Va., January 10, 2019 – The current administration has proposed a rule that would require all insurers in the Affordable Care Act Marketplace to send and collect separate monthly bills from patients specifically for abortion care coverage. This means that insurers would issue an additional bill, separate from other health services, for abortion coverage. These payments are estimated to be around one dollar per month.
AMSA has long maintained that all women—regardless of age, social status, or marital status—must have the right to access legal, safe, and voluntary abortion services. We strongly oppose any policy at the local, state, or federal level that delays access to abortion care or increases medical risks for women seeking these services.
In response to this proposed regulation, AMSA has submitted formal comments to the government, firmly opposing the rule.
