Sterling, VA – January 4, 2017: With less than eight weeks until the American Medical Student Association (AMSA) hosts its annual convention and exposition in Washington, D.C., the most highly anticipated sessions for medical students are filling up fast.
Medical students dedicate countless hours to mastering the process of gathering information, assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients in both routine and high-stakes situations. AMSA is giving these future physicians a rare opportunity to put their knowledge and skills to the test in its team-based Sim Challenge at this year’s convention and exposition. Each team will tackle a clinical case that requires not only medical expertise but also critical communication and teamwork skills essential for solving real-world scenarios.
These competitions push students to think quickly, collaborate effectively, and accurately diagnose authentic clinical cases. While this challenge is a game, the stakes will be much higher during their residencies and careers. The winning team will earn a spot in the European simulation competition in June 2017 in Paris, France. Space is limited for this highly sought-after two-day event. Individuals or teams of medical students can register at amsaconvention.org/sim-challenge.
Understanding that these future physicians will face more than just clinical cases in their careers, AMSA is also offering the Momentum session at the convention. Over the course of two hours, students will work alongside peers and subject matter experts to explore challenges in ethical dilemmas, forensic medicine, and the Match process. Momentum provides intellectually curious students with exposure to complex subjects they may not encounter until faced with real-life scenarios. Space for this session is also limited. Medical students attending the convention can register at amsaconvention.org/momentum.
