AMSA Selects the 2019-2020 Education & Advocacy Fellow
Keanan McGonigle, 2019-2020 AMSA Education & Advocacy Fellow
Sterling, Va., January 18, 2019 – The American Medical Student Association (AMSA) congratulates Keanan McGonigle on his selection as the 2019–2020 Education and Advocacy Fellow.
McGonigle is a fourth-year medical student at Tulane University School of Medicine. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Human Biology from the University of Virginia in 2014 and went on to complete a Master of Public Policy in 2015, also at the University of Virginia.
McGonigle has been actively involved in AMSA leadership since his undergraduate years and has played a key role in AMSA’s AIDS Advocacy Network throughout his graduate and medical education. He has served as a member and chair of the AIDS Advocacy Network since 2014, as AMSA Regional Director for Region IV from 2016 to 2017, and has held leadership positions at both the local and chapter levels, including at Tulane School of Medicine and his premedical chapter at the University of Virginia.
McGonigle has a strong interest in HIV primary care and plans to pursue a residency in internal medicine with a focus on primary care. His advocacy work spans HIV/AIDS, access to medicines, environmental health and climate change, and medical conflict of interest. He is eager to engage with medical students, legislators, and community and policy leaders to advance AMSA’s mission in shaping the future of health care. He is particularly excited to empower medical students to raise their voices on issues they are passionate about.
AMSA will officially welcome McGonigle as a fellow in May 2019, and we look forward to seeing his contributions in advancing AMSA’s mission throughout the 2019–2020 year.
