STERLING, Virginia and NEW YORK, New York – June 14, 2017 – Expanding on its longstanding collaboration with MedPage Today, AMSA has partnered with MedPage Today’s sister company, for[MD], to introduce the AMSA Mentorship Program, powered by for[MD].
The AMSA Mentorship Program provides U.S. medical student members with direct access to practicing physician mentors across the country from a variety of backgrounds. In addition to mentorship, students will receive curated content covering essential topics crucial to their medical education, including Preparing for the Match, Succeeding in Residency, Wellness Strategies, Test and Rotations, and Career Planning.
“Medical students actively seek direct access to practicing physicians, recognizing the invaluable experience, knowledge, and insight they offer in navigating medical school and career development,” said Jamie Thayer Scates, Chief Partnership Officer at AMSA.
“Through this program,” Scates continued, “students will engage in private group discussions on topics not typically covered in medical school. They will also have the rare opportunity to connect one-on-one with physician mentors, gaining deeper insight into specific areas of interest or receiving personalized guidance in a protected setting.”
Greg Chang, founder of for[MD], emphasized the importance of mentorship, stating:
“These physicians-in-training are making critical decisions that will shape their careers, patient care, and the broader health care landscape. The AMSA Mentorship Program is designed to provide them with the support and guidance they need to maximize their medical school experience and make well-informed choices.”
To further enhance the program, for[MD], MedPage Today, and AMSA have brought on additional partners to expand content offerings and increase access to physician mentors.
These partners include:
- American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST)
- American Foundation for Suicide Prevention
- American College of Radiology
- American Gastroenterological Association
- Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
- And many more
